A Little Bit of Something a little bit of something is more than nothing
a little bit of something is more than nothing a little bit of something is more than nothing to me
when you’re driving on the shoulder
when you’re wilting in the heat
when you’re living the lie you told her take this little tip from me and when the time stands still and when the clock strikes three when you’re getting all your thrills you’ll look around and see when they hold you to your word when they keep your company remember something that you heard before you disagree
2.
Goodbye Joeville when you’re feeling low and down there’s a hidden special part of town catch a ride and pick up the sound and pin it on your wedding gown the heat carries here like nowhere else
don’t take it from me come see for yourself so go ahead and call it what you will that’s the way that we do it in Joeville
drop the hammer and pick up the drill
that’s the way that we do it in Joeville
pull back the whisky and spit out the pills that’s the way that we do it in Joeville get your thrill on gooseberry hill and that’s the way
 and that’s the way
and that’s the way that we do it in Joeville when the cupboard’s bare and there’s nothing on the shelf you’ve had enough of picking up yourself
we do it for our souls and we do it for our health
in the borough where we share the wealth the beat carries here like no other burgh
don’t keep it to yourself pass around the word so go ahead and call it what you will go for the jugular go for the kill bring all the extras and bring all the frills cry for the milk but don’t let it spill so go ahead and call it what you will give me a quote from Cecil B. DeMille zero by a hundred will always get you nil defenestrate me from your windowsill

I Used to Look Up to You (But All You Ever Do is Let Me Down) ain’t seen the sun in seven weeks
the past is uncertain and the future’s bleak
but there’s a change in my disposition
I can feel it coming round
used to look up to you but all you ever do is let me down
I look around for the fat lady singing
check the score but my team ain’t winning but tonight’s the night
I think I’m gonna go downtown
used to look up to you
but all you ever do is let me down cut the cards hit the deck
there’s a chain of flowers around your neck we’ve got some seals and lions all we need now are some jugglers and clowns
used to look up to you
but all you ever do is let me down

Bite My Tongue
I waltzed into Saskatchewan
I knew for sure you were putting me on
I thought about how the West was won
I ate the dust that the wind had spun and I got nothing left to hide
bite my tongue and swallow my pride I rode in to Portage la Prairie
an Act of Contrition and a Hail Mary I saw a fork in the winding road
spun the dial and I broke the code
and I just staged your homicide
bite my tongue and swallow my pride I walked down to Caribou
a knife in my hand and a picture of you right before I went to sleep
saw the northern sky and I started to weep I can’t keep it locked inside
bite my tongue and swallow my pride I washed up in Sault Ste. Marie
a terrible sight for a man to see
thought I drifted but now I know
I came undone some time ago
and I’ve got nothing left to hide
bite my tongue and swallow my pride

Singing Your Blues
it was a steal you got a good deal
for the price that’s been paid
with a sharpened knife you live your life like a masquerade
in rolls the thunder in imminent wonder how could you realize
you never knew that people saw through through your thin disguise I walked in your forest
I walked in your woods I hedged all the bets paid all your debts but it done you no good I walked in your garden
 I walked in your shoes
I walked in the park long after dark singing your blues wherever you’d been you sure done me in that that day in Arizona
so very late I did negotiate
with your other persona I was forewarned of the oncoming storm
it was too much to ask
feeling berated you’re gonna stand naked when you take off that mask you say you’ve seen it all but the curtain will fall and bury your effects
you can’t turn the page you’ll sleep another age in your Snow White complex all that libation all that adoration it’s plastic genteel
it’s just as well that you could never tell tell what’s fake and what’s real

All We Left Behind in these days of new beginnings in these days of dawning times in these days of looking forward and painting all the signs raise a glass to things profound raise a glass to all that’s fine raise a glass to times ahead walk away from all we left behind every day I feel your heat a light so bright it left me blind i hang on to your every word every thought left undefined raise a glass to things profound raise a glass to all that’s fine raise a glass to times ahead climb the summit of all we left behind swim the depths of our ocean sail the sea of our love’s shine float in the pool of our dreams strike the vein of our goldmine raise a glass to things profound raise a glass to all that’s fine raise a glass to times ahead crush the bones of all we left behind

The Girl Who Won’t Look Down you won’t find me digging for gold you won’t find me telling no lies you won’t find me standing in the cold if you find me I’ll be staring at the skies so look me up if you’d like to meet call my number if you’re coming round knock on my door if you’re in my street look me up if you’re in town just to see the girl the girl who won’t look down you won’t find me shovel in hand you won’t find me hiding on Mars you won’t find me if you don’t understand if you find me I’ll be staring at stars

tonight 04:37
Tonight
it’s a constant struggle for order
make a run for the border tonight
checking out the local scene
gonna hire a limousine tonight now’s the time to delive r
take a swim in the river tonight
you gotta get wet to make a splash you take credit I’ll take the cash tonight tonight… I’m giving no assurance gonna test your endurance we’re gonna live it up all right there are no guarantees so whatever pleases you
we’ll be spoiling for a fight man the gates and hold the fort while the president is holding court tonight would you speak on my behalf while we have the final laugh tonight yes I will yes I can
one more night in the frying pan tonight while your dreams are taking flight
I think I’m going to go out tonight
9.
I Know What Haunts You
it’s a moment of clarity
a fork in the road
one winter night
I caught you lying low
accidentally confided that’s for you to decide will it cloud it up
or will it clean the state I stumbled on you
in your wicked state it’s a savage intimacy that’s for you to decide all the boys may love you and want you but I know what haunts you
circumstances may tease you and taunt you
but I know what haunts you in your finer dreams
you were the talk of the town then you were caught with your party dress down confidante or innocent
that’s for you to decide no straws to grasp at no offer of hope
you reach the bottom of the slippery slope shoot the messenger that’s for you to decide
the blood in your veins may dance and flaunt through shadows in the night provoke and daunt you
the ghosts under the bed may gloat and vaunt anew the generals resign to peace and detente’s coup

kind of girl 05:00
Kind of Girl she’s the kind of girl who’ll call up a radio talk show just to hear just to hear her own voice and though she might not have a lot to say the sounds she hears are her own cause for celebration and rejoice she’s the kind of girl who’ll approach you before midnight and ask you for a flame ask you for a light and though she might not she might not even smoke seeing your fingers fumbling across the matches is likely to make her evening the coffee seems a slight bit weaker the wine I opened yesterday seems a bit a bit off colour whether all this is connected to her absence is doubtful but I suspect it anyway she’s the kind of girl who’ll ask you about your favourite colour and when you look when you look her over you see she’s wearing nothing nothing but black but looking for the beauty and for the sadness in her eyes is celebration and rejoice the coffee seems a slight bit weaker the song that I penned yesterday seems a bit a bit off colour whether all this is connected to her absence is doubtful but I suspect it anyway
